In the arctic tundra there are two seasons: winter and summer. In the summer, the sun is up almost 24 hours a day. This sun however, only warms the tundra up about 3°C to 12°C. In the winter there are several weeks where the sun never rises. This causes the temperatures to drop to extremely cold levels. The average temperature of the tundra is around -28°C while extremes can go down to -70°C.
Global Warming
The Arctic tundra is changing dramatically due to global warming. Temperatures are rising. A new study suggests that by 2050, the arctic tundra will be warm enough to produce vegetation and trees. Global warming effects faster and more severe in the arctic. The Arctic is warming faster than the rest of the world. That is happening because the tundra is very cold.
Global warming is a threat to everything, everywhere! You can help every living thing survive by doing these things;
1. Don't throw garbage on the ground.
2. Try using reusable containers instead of paper bags or plastic bags
3. Use plastic bags from groceries to 'scoop'
4. Don't dump your garbage in the ocean
5. Hang your clothes outside on a cloth line. This will help save you money (by not paying the money for a dryer) and will be easy
